Growing Coffee

We embrace the concept of terroir cherished by the wine industry: the exquisite environment and rich volcanic soil where our coffee is grown results in specialty coffee with a distinctive aroma, dark chocolate and ripe stone fruit tones, and a bold, juicy finish.

Tree Planting

Carico coffee beans are grown at high elevations under the shade of indigenous trees, which allows the coffee fruit to grow and ripen slowly.

We've planted thousands of trees across hundreds of farms while educating Tree Ambassadors to sustain the program.

Coffee Cherries

The coffee cherries are then hand-picked at the perfect time and processed at the cooperative using the more delicate process known as wet processing for a clean and bright taste. The beans are then regularly turned as they dry in the Ugandan sun.

Natural Farms

We follow sustainable methods in agricultural biodiversity, intercropping the coffee with bananas, beans, ginger, and other vegetables bound for local home tables. This farming practice naturally removes any need for chemical fertilizers or pesticides and preserves the authentic taste and delicate bouquet of our specialty coffee.

Expert Roast

Carico specialty coffee is cultivated by independent, smallholder cooperative farms in the Bugisu region of the mountains in Eastern Uganda. Expertly roasted by virtuoso roaster Kip Rolfe, our specialty single origin Bugisu Arabica is full-bodied and distinctive.
